Product Notes

Raats Family Wines Red Jasper is a richly sophisticated South African Cabernet Franc blend. Exuding a deep crimson hue, it offers a mesmerising bouquet of ripe dark fruits, complimented by underlying hints of tobacco and earthy undertones. The opulent palate is characteristically elegant, showcasing a harmonious balance of structure, vibrancy, and velvety tannins. Red Jasper is matured in French oak, culminating in a luxuriously smooth finish that lingers on the tongue. This sumptuous offering from Raats Family Winery exemplifies their dedication to capturing the singularity of their terroir, rendering a timeless wine that pairs beautifully with steak or lamb dishes.

Tasting Notes

Exceptionally intense and complex on the nose with blackberry, black cherry and bramble in abundance and subtle hints of forest floor, dark chocolate, aniseed and spicy tobacco. The walk in the Black Forest continues with blue and blackberry dancing on a tight rope with focus and concentration, following through onto a perfectly balanced, fine-grained, velvety palate. The finish lingers with hints of fresh mint, cinnamon and perfume. Complex and structured.

About the Winery

Raats Family Wines

Located in the bustling wine region of Stellenbosch, South Africa, Raats Family Wines is a remarkable boutique winery renowned for its uncompromising commitment to crafting world-class wines. Their story is one of passion, dedication, and a firm belief in the potential of South African wine making.

Established in 2000 and family-owned, the Raats winery is passionately helmed by brothers Bruwer and Jasper Raats. They've dedicated their lives to wine, with Bruwer serving as the winemaker and Jasper overseeing viticulture. Their shared vision, to make the finest quality Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc wines and put South Africa on the global wine map, mirrors their unfaltering dedication to excellence.

Of note, Raats Family Wines boasts a remarkable range of wines that showcase the unique terroir of the Stellenbosch region. Sourced from old, low-yielding vineyards, the Raats wines are renowned for their concentrated, complex character and extraordinary elegance. Far from settling with the successes of their award-winning Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc, the Raats brothers continually strive for innovation, exemplified by their pioneering Babylonstoren Babel, a bold and vibrant blend of five different grape varietals.

Despite its boutique size, Raats dedicated commitment to sustainable farming practices and socially responsible viticulture makes it a leader in the South African wine industry. They keep their production deliberately low – focusing on quality over quantity, ensuring that each bottle produced is a robust testament to the rich, varied soils from which their grapevines are cultivated.

Visitors to Raats Family Wines can expect to be warmly welcomed and treated to a unique, intimate wine tasting experience. Overlooking the breathtaking vistas of the Stellenbosch region, the tasting room offers wine connoisseurs the opportunity to savour the distinctive, focused flavours of their wines.

From soil to glass, at Raats Family Wines extends beyond the winery its a labour of love, passion, and an unwavering commitment to crafting world-class wines that truly express the spirit of South African wines.
