Boekenhoutskloof's The Chocolate Block wine exudes elegance and grandeur, synonymous with South African viniculture. A distinct blend of Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon and Viognier, its complex bouquet unfolds with notes of ripe red fruits, dark chocolate, and hints of pepper and spices. This full-bodied wine has an exquisite palate, expressing dense black fruit flavours, nuanced smoky undertones and finely balanced tannins, leading to a pleasingly persistent finish. Intense blackberry, bramble, and lavender aromas with gentle nuances of potting soil and cured meat dominate a dark and brooding nose. Cacao-powdery tannins are abundant, adding texture and complexity to an almost savoury mid-palate, seamlessly complementing the vivid dark fruits, alcohol and acidity. This is a robust, structured wine, yet it is delicate, poised and elegant at the same time. Black fruits, cumin spice, white pepper, liquorice and hints of garrigue persist on a velvety finish.
