About the Winery

Cave de Hunawihr

Nestled in the heart of the Alsace region in the north-east of France, the Cave de Hunawihr winery showcases old-world charm, set alongside modern viticulture. This remarkable cooperative consists of around 130 dedicated winegrowers who tend to their vineyards, which casually sprawl over approximately 220 hectares.

Cave de Hunawihr was established in 1954 and has been committed to producing wines of the highest calibre since its formation. The vineyards’ unique location between Marckolsheim and Thann provides the perfect growing conditions. With its chalky clay soil combined with a semi-continental climate, it creates the ideal terroir for producing quality grapes, diverse in their characteristics.

The winery is renowned for its vast range of varietals, including Riesling, Pinot Blanc, and Gewürztraminer. All the wine production is sustainably farmed, and the winery is certified HVE3, a French system that credits environmental excellence. Harvesting of the grapes is done by hand; this traditional method enables the selection of the finest grapes, thus ensuring optimal wine quality.

Visitors have the opportunity to visit the vineyard, taking guided tours and indulging in wine tasting sessions. Sipping on the globally acclaimed wines amidst a backdrop of breathtaking scenery is an unforgettable experience. The winery also boasts a traditional caveau - a tasting room where they showcase their finest vintages, a definite must-visit for wine aficionados.

Notable for its commitment to sustainable farming and its meticulous grape selection process, Cave de Hunawihr stands proud as a beacon of French viticulture. While it is steeped in tradition and continuity the innovative approach to winemaking it adopts has earned it an enviable reputation on the international stage.

In a nutshell, the entrancing charm of Cave de Hunawihr winery is not merely limited to its stunning setting and quality wines, but the authenticity and passion that resonates, from the vineyards to the cellar, is what truly distinguishes this winery.
