Product Notes

COS Pithos Rosso DOC wine is an exquisite Sicilian red, brought to life using the organic, biodynamic method of amphora fermentation. A blend of mostly Nero d'Avola and Frappato grapes, it offers a unique, rich flavour profile brimming with cherry, raspberry, and a suggestion of aromatic herbs. A pronounced minerality and medium-bodied texture complements its underlying tannin structure. The wine is aged in terracotta amphorae, which gives it an earthly elegance and complexity. Hints of vanilla and spice on the palate complete this Italian masterpiece. Pithos Rosso DOC is an exceptional choice for any wine aficionado searching for natural, artisanal luxury.

About the Winery

COS

Settled amidst the beautiful landscape of Sicily, Italy, the COS Winery is a true exemplar of delectable wines and rich daring history. Founded in 1980, it has over the years, acquired an eminent standing in the realm of wine enthusiasts around the world.

The winery's ethos is woven around their deep respect to the land, its harmony and traditions which vividly exposes in their organic and biodynamic agricultural practices. Treading upon the ecological balance, COS Winery ably mirrors the Sicilian terroir and its wealth in their phenomenal wines. Apart from wine cultivation, they are strongly fervent about their role in nature's conservation. They take pride in their biomass energy system, in which residual materials from the grape harvest become a sustainable energy source for the winery.

The name COS represents the initials of its founders - Giambattista Cilia, Giusto Occhipinti, and Cirino Strano. Young visionaries who took the bold step to venture into the then untapped Sicilian viticulture.

The wines from COS emanate a distinct character embodying the careful selection of grape variety, diligent production method and a delicate ageing process. The Amphora line in particular has gained them much fame, as the wine undergoes fermentation in terracotta amphorae, a traditional approach that allows the flavours to develop to their full potency thereby enhancing the wine’s inherent qualities.

Tasting in the COS Winery is an unforgettably mesmerising experience that transcends beyond a typical wine degustation. It not only involves savouring the depth and complexity of their wines, but also the enlightenment of understanding each varietal, the winemaking process and the story behind each bottle.

COS Winery, with its uncompromising commitment to quality and authenticity, steadfast ecological initiatives, and an exceptional raport of wines is, not a haven solely for wine lovers; it's a testament to Sicily's grandeur and splendour.
