Product Notes

Azelia Barolo Bricco Fiasco wine, crafted in Italy's prestigious Piedmont region, is truly a charming confluence of taste and aroma. It boasts a deep ruby red hue, unfolding a complex bouquet of ripe red fruits, mixed with hints of vanilla and spice. The flavour is strikingly intense – a full-bodied delight with a perfect balance of acidity and tannins, all complemented by an exceedingly persistent finish. Ageing in oak barrels imparts a subtle earthy depth, leading to great dimension and longevity. This wine pairs perfectly with grilled meats and aged cheeses, proving itself as an indomitable jewel of Italian wine excellence.

Tasting Notes

Fruity and floral aromatics give way to a palate full of delicate fruit locked into a gripping, forceful tannic framework. As structured as this is, there is plenty of scented fruit bursting from the glass. Showing ripe, sweet strawberry fruit with notes of kirsch, damson liqueur and strong rose hip overtones. The Bricco Fiasco is a relatively sandy plot at the top of the Fiasco hill in Castiglione Falletto, planted with 70 year old vines. Contrary to the regular Barolo the wine is aged in oak barriques, but only 8% new wood, again to limit oak influence - a direction Azelia have been going in for some years now. This sandy soil gives incredibly aromatic and fruity characteristics to the wine.

About the Winery

Azelia

Hidden away in the lush rolling hills of Piedmont, Italy is a sanctuary for wine enthusiasts - the Azelia winery. As you make your way along the verdant vineyard trails, you are welcomed by the intoxicating aroma of perfectly ripened grapes ready to be transformed into exquisite wine. Owned and run by the Scavino family, the Azelia winery has a rich heritage dating back to 1920, that positions it amongst the esteemed names in the wine industry.

Immerse yourself in an intimate exploration of the wine-making process. Under the expert guidance of current owners Luigi and Lorenzo Scavino, the sophistication of Azelia's operations unravels. The environmentally conscious approach the winery maintains, incorporating sustainable farming practices and refraining from any chemical intervention stands out. This commitment to ethical vine cultivation and wine production significantly contributes in boosting the quality of their wines.

The winery’s signature offering is the robust Barolo, a red wine that is one hundred percent Nebbiolo. With its fascinating chorus of aromas, including notes of red cherries, plums, and hints of vanilla and leather, it possesses a harmonious balance that dances delightfully on the tongue. And like the echoes of a classical symphony, these notes linger, providing a drawn-out, satisfying finish,

Outstandingly, Azelia winery has resisted the allure of mass production. Despite its significant following among oenophiles globally, the Scavino family continues to produce just 80,000 bottles every year. This commitment to create artisanal wines over commercial quantities is testament to their dedication to quality. Herein lies the magic of Azelia - the blend of tradition and innovation sustained over decades coupled with a fervent commitment to quality over quantity. This all culminates in creating truly exceptional wines, which have the power the transport one directly to the heart of Piedmont from the first sip; capturing the essence of Italy's wine country in all its splendour.
