Cabernet Sauvignon

Needing very little introduction, Cabernet Sauvignon is the most widely planted red variety in the world, covering almost 300,000 hectares as of 2010. The god father of Bordeaux, Cab Sauvignon has very small, thickly skinned berries which gives wine from this grape its colour, tannins and ability to age. Of course Cabernet can now be found in one form or another in nearly every region around the world, whether it be making Super Tuscans, top Napa Cabs or tasty Uruguayan wines. Flavours often include black cherries and plum, but can include and evolve to show eucalyptus, mint, cedar, pencil shavings or tobacco wit Old world variations tending to have more earthy notes.
