If not the birth place of wine (thought to be Georgia c. 8000 BC), France is arguably the worlds most famous wine producing country and responsible for making many grape varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Syrah house hold names. Today, most grape varieties can be found in one form or another with nearly all regions producing wine. This annually combines go the equivalent production of 7-8 billion bottles.
