Famed for its robust, well-rounded profile, the wine boasts fine, subtle touches of rich berry, savoury herbs and delicate undertones of chocolate and cedar. Each sip lures you in with its captivating melody of flavours, bound by a refined, tannic structure. Its velvety texture on the palate graciously unfolds a lingering, memorable finish. Encapsulating the splendid terroir of Napa Valley, this wine is a testament to the breath-taking harmony of land, vine, and human craftsmanship. Pure sophistication in a bottle.

Tasting Notes

NOSE - Huge, powerful; layer on layer of spice, cedar, earth, and tobacco, all over a rich base of ripe black cherry, blackcurrants, cassis and blueberry jam. PALATE - Rich, round, juicy and mouth coating, the palate delivers black cherry and blackcurrant before moving on to brighter red fruits. More subtle tones of butterscotch, anise, and sweet oak complement the fruit beautifully. FINISH -The huge classic structure of fine grain tannin and firm acidity persist all the way through to a clean, crisp, spicy finish.

About the Winery

Chateau Montelena

Nestled amidst verdant vineyards in Napa Valley, California, lies the majestic Chateau Montelena winery. This iconic establishment paints an endearing image with its quaint ivy-drenched stone façade, a beacon of tradition set against the backdrop of one of the world’s most renowned wine regions.

The winery's history stretches back to 1882, when Alfred L Tubbs established it by planting sprawling vineyards interspersed with native trees draped in Spanish moss. After surviving a lengthy period of prohibition and two world wars, Chateau Montelena solidified its global prestige in 1976. The triumph came at the legendary Judgment of Paris tasting, with their stunning 1973 Chardonnay triumphing over several eminent French offerings. This surprise victory catapulted them to international stardom, altering the perception of New World wines forever.

Today. Chateau Montelena remains a hallmark of excellence in winemaking. Maintaining meticulous vineyard practices and passion for quality, they produce wines that are a testament to this dedication. Their prodigious output spans rich Chardonnays with delicate minerality to bold and expressive Cabernet Sauvignons. Each bottle embodies the essence of Napa Valley, weaving a tale of the region's unique terroir and the years of craft and care imbued in its creation.

Visitors to the Chateau can immerse themselves in a comprehensive tour, absorbing the winery's historical grandeur and getting a first-hand experience of their vinification process. The true delight, however, is towards the conclusion of the tour, where guests are treated to a curated tasting of the Chateau's remarkable wines.

In essence, Chateau Montelena is a testament to resilience, perseverance, and passion. Its journey from its humble beginnings to international acclaim is as palatable as its delectable wines, making it a must-visit for all wine enthusiasts and history plenty alike.
