Tasting Note

The 2020 Picque Caillou Blanc has an attractive nose with peach skin and pineapple scents, maybe just missing the complexity of its peers. The palate is quite malic on the entry and it comes across far less tropical-driven compared to the showing from barrel, just light notes of pineapple and quince towards the finish. - Neal Martin, Vinous

Product Notes

Chateau Picque Caillou Pessac Léognan Blanc is a captivating white wine hailing from the esteemed Pessac Léognan region of Bordeaux, France. This sumptuous blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon grapes reveals a bright palate of citrus fruits and floral notes, artfully accompanied by wisps of mineral hints. Perceived as harmonious, its exquisite balance between acidity and fruit intensity is delightful. Maturing in French oak barrels imparts an intriguing complexity, while retaining the wine's sophisticated freshness. Perfectly enjoyable on its own, it also pairs wonderfully with seafood or poultry. About the Winery

Chateau Picque Caillou

Chateau Picque Caillou is a hidden gem tucked away amidst the captivating landscapes of the Bordeaux wine region in France. Its history is steeped in centuries of tradition, yet its approach to winemaking is as fresh and innovative as ever.

Nestled in the heart of the well-renowned Pessac-Leognan appellation, the winery sprawls across an expanse of 21 hectares. Rich in biodiversity, the vineyard's soils reflect a unique composition of sand, gravel, and a hint of clay, crafting distinct characteristics into each bottle of wine.

Founded in the 18th century, Chateau Picque Caillou takes pride in its rich heritage. The charming chateau is as majestic as it is intimate, welcoming connoisseurs and novices alike to soak in its ambience. It is said that the Chateau owes its evocative name to the 'Picques' or 'peaks' formed by small outcrops of graves rich soil, and 'Cailloux' or 'stones' witnessed by the profusion of pebbles on the land.

Over the year’s, this has given rise to a wide array of breathtakingly good wines that capture the essence of the terroir. The winery predominantly crafts its wines using Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon for their reds, and Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris for the whites but each vintage is unique, reflecting the varying climate and conditions of that particular year.

An essential part of Chateau Picque Caillou’s ethos is their approach to winemaking is both sustainable and respectful to the land; ensuring every glass of their wine is a pure and honest representation of the vineyard's bounty. With an unwavering commitment to excellence, the winery meticulously oversees each step in the winemaking process, from the ripening of the grapes right through to the aging of the wine.

It's with no wonder, then, that Chateau Picque Caillou continues to be regarded as a bastion of quality and refinement in a region already lauded for its outstanding wines. Dedication to the craft is clear in each bottle, and the history of the property adds depth to each sip.
