Product Notes

De Trafford Chenin Blanc is an exquisite South African wine that delivers enchanting aromas of ripe fruit and honey. Each sip unravels flavours of delicate peaches, pineapples and subtle hints of vanilla, accentuated with a profound minerality. The wine has a lovely concentrated palate, perfectly balanced by a vibrant acidity, lending it a phenomenal freshness. This full-bodied Chenin Blanc is gracefully aged in French oak barrels, duly reinforcing its complexity and rich mouthfeel. Ideal for enjoying as a standalone treat or paired with seafood, the De Trafford Chenin Blanc demonstrates a wine experience of exceptional refinement.

Tasting Notes

Straw yellow colour wine with peach and apricot primary aromas complimented by lemon, honey and floral aspects on the nose and palate. Complex, substantial with fresh and elegant finish.

De Trafford

Located in the scenic Stellenbosch region of South Africa, De Trafford winery is a destination that seems straight out of a dream for any wine enthusiast. Graced with stunning vistas of the Cape Winelands, this family-run winery is renowned for its distinctive and elegant wines.

The story behind the establishment of De Trafford winery is quite fascinating. David Trafford, the winemaker and the mastermind behind this venture, started off as an architect. Owing to a combination of his architectural prowess and passion for wines, the winery was born in 1983 and was transformed into a top-quality wine producer over the years.

The unique location of De Trafford winery is instrumental in nurturing the exceptional quality of its grapes. The vines grow on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain, benefiting from the influence of the cool sea breeze, which ensures a slow and steady ripening of the fruit. These optimal climatic conditions aid in the creation of wines that stand out for their elegance, sophistication and complexity.

De Trafford wines are characterised by their deep, rich colours, exquisite aromas and intense flavours. Each bottle is a reflection of the winery’s dedication to uphold the highest standards of viticulture and vinification. The winery's meticulous approach is evidenced in its limited production, averaging 3500 cases per annum, offering the assurance of quality over quantity.

From silky, full-bodied reds like Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, to refreshingly zesty whites like Chenin Blanc and the highly sought-after Straw Wine. Each wine is painstakingly crafted to enhance its individual character and to ensure that it's a true representation of the terroir. Visitors to De Trafford winery will not only savour its delectable wines, but be engrossed in the tranquil beauty of the wineland setting, and the warm hospitality of the Trafford family and their team.

Although the winery has made incredible strides in over three decades of existence, it maintains an aura of down-to-earth charm, endearing it to locals and visitors alike. De Trafford Winery is a South African gem; a testament to the enduring draw of fine wines couched in centuries-old tradition.
