About the Winery

Aalto

Established at the turn of the 21st century, Aalto winery is a joint venture between Mariano García and Javier Zaccagnini in the vineyard-rich region of Ribera del Duero, Spain. The winery is named after the Finnish architect, Alvar Aalto, whose elegant and timeless design philosophies are imbued in the winery's operations.

Aalto winery is predominantly known for its production of one key varietal, the Tempranillo grape. The winery's vineyards, spread across an extensive 200 hectares, are home to an impressive selection of mature Tempranillo vines, aging between 40 to 100 years old. This surely contributes strongly to the profound depth and complexity found in Aalto's wines.

The unique climate of Ribera del Duero, characterised by long, chilly winters and short, hot summers, coupled with the high altitude and diverse soil types of the region all play a significant role in shaping the character of Aalto's wines. Each bottle truly encapsulates the essence of its terroir, exhibiting intense, dark fruit flavours with beautifully balanced acidity and notable structure.

The winemaking process entails thorough respect for traditional viticultural practices. However, this is bolstered by the inclusion of modern winemaking technologies to further refine their wines. This produces beautifully crafted wines that speak volumes about the region's quality and potential,

The partnership of García and Zaccagnini has undoubtedly formed the cornerstone of Aalto's success. Their combined experience and passion has propelled Aalto winery to international acclaim, with their wines garnering many prestigious awards. Today, Aalto's red wines are considered to be amongst Spain's finest, being praised globally for their superb quality and undeniable charm.

In essence, Aalto winery beckons a visit from every wine connoisseur for its remarkable offering of richly flavoured, elegantly structured wines that reflect the heart and soul of Ribera del Duero; they have proven that they are more than just producers, they are artisans, nurturing every grape from vine to glass.
