Tasting Note

Deep colour with purple reflections. The very expressive and airy nose opens with aromas of blackcurrant, peonies and liquorice. The palate is generous, full and creamy. The acidity and tannins melt together, giving the wine its upright character. The long finish is dominated by smoky aromas, black fruit and mint.

Product Notes

Château Pontet-Canet Pauillac is a highly esteemed wine originating from the Bordeaux region of France, specifically from the family-run vineyard in Pauillac. Its exquisite blend of Cabernet and Merlot grapes produces a wine encompassing rich, full-bodied flavours of dark berries, with haunting undertones of earthy minerals. Aged painstakingly in French oak barrels, the essence of subtle spice combines with delicate tannins to offer a smooth, but profound complexity. The striking nose of floral and fruit aromas precede an elegantly lingering finish. This wine promises a divine experience for the most discerning of wine connoisseurs.

About the Winery

Château Pontet-Canet

Situated in the heart of Pauillac in France's Bordeaux region, Château Pontet-Canet is among the most celebrated wineries, known not only for its prestigious wines but also for its rich history and commitment to nature.

The 120-hectare estate has an incredibly diverse landscape which, combined with the region's unique microclimate, provides perfect grape-growing conditions. The winery primarily produces red varietals, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, sourcing all the fruit from its own ecologically-friendly farming operations with a commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture.

Château Pontet-Canet was established in the early 18th century by Jean-François de Pontet, who served as royal governor of the Médoc region. Over the years, the winery remained within the family. The legends of Pontet-Canet began to take root under the ownership of Herman Cruse, who bought the estate in 1865. Cruse invested heavily in the estate, improving both the viniculture and infrastructure to a great deal that the wines of Château Pontet-Canet soon began garnering international acclaim.

In 1975, the Cruse family sold the estate to cognac producer Guy Tesseron, whose descendants still run the property. Continuous meticulous work from the family, combined with the experience and expertise of the technical teams, have propelled Château Pontet-Canet to the heights of the Pauillac appellation.

A visit to this historical winery offers more than just the opportunity to taste fine wines. With a Romanesque château that overlooks the vineyards, a tour will transport you back to the 18th century. Skilled wine guides lead tours, providing insights on the rich history of the winery, its unique vine-growing methods and, of course, its exquisite wines.

If you're a wine lover in search of quality craftsmanship, and sustainable viticulture, a visit to Château Pontet-Canet is a must. Be preprared to lose yourself in the captivating storyline behind each bottle and the unique characterises of each variety.
