Tasting Note

Has an inky character on the nose, a touch of that dry, pastille and watercolour paintbox character, the fruit cherry-like and bright, the spicy oak subtle in the background. On the palate this bursts with juicy, youthful fruit, very nicely pitched against the acidity and tannins.

Product Notes

Crocus La Roche Mère Malbec encapsulates the rich heritage of Cahors, France, offering splendid blend of sophistication and harmony. Its deep, enticing crimson hue foretells an enchanting experience. With robust notes of dark berries, cocoa, and hints of vibrant spice, it entrances wine-lovers. Strong yet refined tannins reward the palate, with the potential of blossoming further with age. Tightly wound and undeniably complex, it culminates in a persistent, generous finish. This full-bodied expression of Malbec is an opulent tribute to the French wine-making tradition. Ideal for pairing with robust meat dishes or savoured alone to fully appreciate its complex character.

About the Winery

Crocus

The origins of Crocus Winery are deeply rooted in the ancient terroirs of Cahors, a quaint town located in the South-West of France. This bespoke winery was established in 2010 through an unexpected partnership between Paul Hobbs, an esteemed international wine consultant, and Bertrand Vigouroux, whose family had cultivated wines in the region for four generations.

The synergy between Hobbs' modern viticulture knowledge and Vigouroux's deep familiarity with native Malbec grapes, resulted in the creation of viticultural masterpieces. Crocus wines reflect a generous blend of tradition and innovation, which earned them a distinct name among top-quality Cahors wines.

The vineyard encompasses a variety of terrains over a sprawling 60 hectares, covering several altitude levels. Each parcel of land is carefully chosen to optimise the expression of Malbec grapes, following a flexible biodynamic approach that respects nature's rhythm’s.

The owners' dedication to crafting distinguished, complex and elegant wines has led Crocus to produce three distinct labels; Crocus 'L'Atelier', Crocus 'La Roque' and Crocus 'Prestige', each with its exceptional personality. The wines are a true testament to the mastery of Crocus Winery, a place where old-world tradition meets cutting-edge wine making techniques.
