Tasting Note

Deep ruby red in colour, with an intense and expressive nose of violets, ripe cherries and plums, underpinned by subtle earthy and mineral nuances. The palate is beautifully pure and energetic, combining vibrant red and dark fruit with a broad, silky texture and fresh acidity. Fine tannins provide structure without heaviness, while the amphora ageing brings depth and complexity. Long, precise and mineral on the finish, with remarkable purity and persistence. A distinctive and sophisticated expression of Gamay.

Product Notes

Domaine Jean-Claude Lapalu Alma Mater Amphora wine is a vibrant natural wine from the Beaujolais region of France. It's a biodynamically-grown Gamay, fermented and aged in terra cotta amphora for nine months. Striking a spectacular balance between richness and freshness, it is layered with expressions of juicy wild strawberries, black cherries, delicate spices, and mineral undertones. Alma Mater is full-bodied yet silky in texture, with a fascinatingly complex flavour profile. This elegant, artisan-produced wine is unfiltered and without added sulphur, appealing to environmentally-conscious consumers. It truly showcases Lapalu's dedication to authenticity and purity of expression in winemaking.
