Product Notes

Thistledown This Charming Man Old Vine Grenache is a truly tantalising tipple, rich in heritage from South Australia. It exudes a delightful amalgamation of flavours, from succulent red cherries and plum to indigenous spices. The ageing process in old barrels lends a sophisticated earthly tone, intensifying its innate warmth. Its beautifully balanced acidity partners perfectly with the wine's textured tannins, providing a lusciously long finish. This ruby-hued wine's unmistakable character and intricate flavour profile mirror the old vines' resilience, making it a viable indulgence for connoisseurs. This Charming Man is absolutely enchanting, wonderfully embodying Thistledown's passion for wines of distinction.

Tasting Notes

2022 vintage followed in much the same vein as the much-lauded 2021. A little later than normal but the season was characterised by regular moderate rainfall, friendly temperatures and an elongated ripening period which allowed for an even spread of fruit over the harvesting period. This vintage displays muscular yet elegant silky black fruits couple with deep, rich, warming spices, hints of violet, mineral and black cherry.

About the Winery

Thistledown

Hidden in the lush landscapes of South Australia, Thistledown winery is one of the jewels in the local wine industry. Extraordinarily beautiful with its serene vistas and tranquil vibe, the vineyard is at the heart of our traditional winemaking processes combining with modern innovation.

Producing small-batch, handcrafted wines, Thistledown specialises in old-vine Grenache and single-vineyard Shiraz. The winery's commitment to sustainable farming methods personifies their respect towards their mother earth. Many vines are dry-grown, contributing to the distinctive, intense flavours of the wines whilst introducing natural resilience into the vineyard. Despite a tough, arid climate, the resilient plants give us wines of depth, subtlety and terroir-revealing elegance.

From beginning to end, traditional methods meet artistry within the Thistledown walls. Their grapes are handpicked at twilight to preserve their flavours, then gently pressed and fermented in an open-top fermenter by using only wild, indigenous yeasts. The maturing process is carried out in fine French oak barrels, providing the wines with a well-rounded and sublime taste.
