Product Notes

Giuseppe Mascarello's Barolo Santo Stefano di Perno is an exceptional Italian wine, acclaimed for its rich, layered complexity. This full-bodied wine is made from Nebbiolo grapes in the Piedmont region, presenting an aromatic bouquet of ripe cherries, dark fruit and spicy notes. On the palate, it exhibits a superb balance of tannin and acidity, underpinned by a strong, earthy backbone. Matured for several years in large oak barrels, the wine develops deep, lasting flavours. Perfectly paired with hearty dishes, Santo Stefano di Perno is a testament to Giuseppe Mascarello's stellar reputation as a Barolo producer.

About the Winery

Giuseppe Mascarello

Nestled in the verdant hills of Piemonte, Giuseppe Mascarello winery is an iconic Italian gem. The estate glows with centuries-old history and a unyielding dedication to viticulture. Their love for the craft and the land is almost tangible, evident in the rich flavours gracing every single bottle they produce. From the sunbathed vineyards to the cool cellars, Giuseppe Mascarello winery is truly a testament to the beauty of wine making.

Founded in 1881, The Giuseppe Mascarello estate is a family-owned establishment, passed down through generations, each carrying on a passionate love affair with wine. At the helm today is Mauro Mascarello alongside his wife Maria Theresa, guarding the inherit traditions yet fostering innovation. Their son Giuseppe serves as the industrious vineyard manager, while their daughter Elena manages the sciacciatoio and administrative functions. The family is deeply rooted in the ethos of crafting quality rather than quantity.

The winery is renowned globally for the production of Barolo, a robust, full-bodied red wine that stands as one of Italy's most significant creations. The Mascarello's array of Barolos, particularly their Monprivato version is a sought-after Italian jewel. These wines reflect an essence of the land and marvellously showcases the quintessential characters and complexities of Nebbiolo, the black grape variety used in making Barolo. They also produce the delightful Dolcetto and Barbera wines, known for the charismatic personality.

Set against a backdrop of magnificent alpine beauty, their vineyards range across four different communes—Monforte, Serralunga, Castiglione Falletto, and of course, Barolo. The meticulous care with which these vines are tended to, is an apt reflection of the elevated quality of wines this estate produces. The winery implements traditional wine production techniques to lock in the native characteristics of each varietal, and the results are truly spectacular.

From its humble beginnings through to todays' international acclaim, a visit at Giuseppe Mascarello winery is more than just a wine tasting session; its a heartfelt journey into the world of Italian viticulture. So, here's a toast to the enduring legacy of the Mascarello family - a lineage championing the celebration of wine that is quintessentially Italian.
