Tasting Notes

Pale gold with a delicate bead. Intense aromas of citrus zest, lemon curd and sea spray are overlaid with complex notes of sweet brioche, toast and nougat. The palate is elegantly structured with preserved lemon, white peach, wild strawberries and rose water. Four years of ageing on yeast lees in bottle has built further complexity and subtle nuances of nougat and roasted hazelnuts. With a refreshing natural acidity on the finish, Jansz Tasmania Vintage Cuvée 2015 is a sparkling wine of finesse, power and elegance.

About the Winery

Jansz

Nestled in the heart of Tamar Valley in Tasmania, Jansz winery is a sheer demonstration of breathtaking viticulture. Embracing the cool-climate and fertile soil of Tasmania, Jansz winery commits itself to creating some of the finest expressions of sparkling wine in Australia. The method applied in producing the wines is coined as 'Méthode Tasmanoise,' a term harking back to the authentic culture of wine-making in the region while acknowledging the unique Tasmanian conditions that shape the wine.

The Jansz estate was originally founded by a French adventurer named Abel Tasman. He christened the area “Jansz,” in honour of his mother’s maiden name. Today, just like Tasman’s explorative spirit, the winery pioneers in the production of premium sparkling wine outside the Champagne region.

The vineyard takes advantage of the area's cool climate, aided by maritime influences off the Bass Strait. Each vine stretches out across the rolling landscapes, with magnificent views of the Tasmanian horizon. This cool climate is perfect for slow ripening the grapes, endowing a unique flavour profile. It is of no surprise that Jansz has garnered national and international acclaim for its premium vintage wines.

Such quality is not grown overnight. Jansz employs a rigorous process to ensure only the finest grapes make it to the final bottle. The wines are meticulously handpicked and undergo secondary fermentation to ensure only the purest flavours come through. The outcome, wines that are elegant, delicate and bold on the palate.

Visitors to Jansz are captivated by the sweeping vineyards vistas, the modernist tasting room, and the cellar from which the winery's award-winning sparkling wines are released. Pair these with locally-sourced artisanal foods and you have an experience that transcends a mere visit to a winery.

Thus, Jansz winery is not just about wine, it’s a testament to the art of winemaking it's a celebration of the land, the climate, and the age-old craft of viticulture.
