Tasting Note

This wine is ruby garnet in colour with an intensely perfumed nose, a characteristic of this vineyard. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied with a bright acidity, displaying aromas of anise, cherries, roses and ripe plums. Tannins are fine and very well integrated culminating in a lingering finish.

Product Notes

Poderi Aldo Conterno's Barolo Colonnello wine is a luxurious Italian offering, made from Nebbiolo grapes matured in the Conterno vineyard. Its full-bodied, velvety texture, complemented by a captivating ruby red hue, offers a complex bouquet of red fruits, chocolate, liquorice and subtle tobacco undertones. This Barolo's robust character is marked by delectably poised tannin-acidity interplay, while aging in French oak contributes a distinct vanilla note. With vintage-dictated variations, it leaves a lasting expression of the terroir. A treat for any discerning wine enthusiast, the Colonnello is best savoured alongside rich, hearty meals. A superb testament to Aldo Conterno's winemaking prowess.

About the Winery

Poderi Aldo Conterno

Located in the heart of the Langhe wine region in the Piedmont area of Northern Italy, Poderi Aldo Conterno is a beacon in the world of winemaking. Celebrated for producing some of the most superb Barolo available, the winery carries a rich legacy built on unwavering quality and an unconventional approach to crafting wine.

Established in 1969 by Aldo Conterno, the son of the renowned winemaker Giacomo Conterno, Poderi Aldo Conterno quickly established a distinct identity drawn from Aldo's unique vision. He was committed to individualising his wines; a contrast with the uniformity that used to be standard practice in the region. As a result, Aldo Conterno wines bear a distinctive, refined quality that represents the best of Piedmont’s terroir.

Sprawled over 25 hectares of vineyards, the heart of Aldo Conterno’s work lies in the famed Bussia Soprana vineyard. Here, the winery transforms Nebbiolo grapes into various, distinctly expressive Barolo wines: notably the 'Romirasco', 'Cicala' and 'Colonnello'. These wines are carefully aged in Slavonian oak barrels, magnifying their complex, beguiling qualities.

Moreover their commitment to quality does not wane with their lesser known wines — the Barbera d'Alba and the Dolcetto d'Alba, are both equally impressive, brimming with layers of flavour and depth alike their Barolo counterparts.

Poderi Aldo Conterno may be prestigious; but it never loses sight of its roots. The winery’s rustic, traditional tasting room is a perfect setting to savour their incredible selection of wines. Visit one day, and be charmed by not just the unforgettable taste of their wines, but the warm hospitality of the Conterno family, as well

The Poderi Aldo Conterno winery is a testament to the art of winemaking, where each bottle is a tribute to tradition and innovation in harmonious balance. A visit to this winery promises an enchanting experience, replete with a decadent taste of Italian viticulture.
