Product Notes

Tablas Creek Vineyard Esprit de Tablas Rouge is a resplendent wine, truly showcasing the glory of Californian viticulture. This full-bodied red blends various grape varieties, which imbues a complex melody of flavours. It opens with an enticing bouquet of dark fruits, followed by intriguing notes of spice, layered with subtle hints of savoury herbs. The palate unfolds a seductive richness, balanced with crisp acidity and firm tannins. Underlying all these components is a minerality that adds a unique character. Honouring Rhône-style blends, this wine embodies grace, depth, and longevity, promising a spectacular tasting journey.

Tasting Notes

A cool wintergreen minty note sets off deeper smoked meat, redcurrant, mocha, and juniper aromas. The mouth shows Grenache's sweet fruit and licorice on that attack, then deepens into notes of black cherry, chocolate, and a chorizo-like meatiness, all with tremendous mouth-coating texture. The long finish, with lingering flavors of wood smoke, roasted meat, plum skin and crushed rock, hints at more rewards to come with cellar aging. We recommend that you drink either between now and 2024 or again starting in 2027 any time over the subsequent two decades.

About the Winery

Tablas Creek Vineyard

Tablas Creek Vineyard is an extraordinary winery situated in the heart of the picturesque Paso Robles wine region in sunny California. Its roots, quite literally, stretch back to the French wine estates of Château de Beaucastel, making this winery a fascinating blend of traditional, old-world techniques and modern ingenuity.

Tablas Creek Vineyard encapsulates an authentic approach to wine cultivation, taking ample care in each steps throughout the winemaking process. Being biodynamically farmed and certified organic, the vineyard is all about the coexistence of land and vine. They reject the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilisers and opt instead to treat the land with nature's own tools – animals grazing on cover crops, enriching the soil with their manure, and bees pollinating the vines.

The vineyard itself is comprised of a vast 120 acres, boasting an impressive array of grape varietals including Mourvèdre, Grenache Noir, Syrah, and Counoise for red wine, and Roussanne, Marsanne, Viognier Perfume, and Grenache Blanc for white wine.

At the heart of Tablas Creek Vineyard is the tasting room, the focal point of the grapes transformative journey into elegant wines. Patrons can taste an array of luscious wines, learn about the winemaking process, and explore the vast vineyard on guided tours.

Notably, Tablas Creek prides its self in producing wines that reflect the character of the grapes and the land, believing that the best wines come from a balance of these elements. Their vision and drive for environmental sustainability and their close-knit, family-run approach to their vineyard is applauded in the wine industry.

All in all treated as a living organism, Tablas Creek Vineyard takes a holistic and humble approach to winemaking, carefully nurturing its grapes from the soil to the bottle. The beautiful result is a selection of rich, striking wines that not only taste remarkable, but also offer a sip of the vineyard’s unique terroir.
