Tasting Note

The wine has a cherry red colour with a medium layer and is very clean and bright. On the nose, after the reductive notes typical of the variety fade away, there is an explosion of red fruit such as raspberry, cherry, and blackberries, along with combined lactic notes that remind us of strawberry lollipops. There are also mineral notes that resemble graphite. The wine has a fresh initial taste, but as it goes through the mouth, it becomes warm and enveloping, reflecting the excellent balance of acidity and glycerin.

Product Notes

The Adega Algueira Ribeira Sacra Mencia is a distinguished Spanish wine that charms connoisseurs with its dark cherry colour and rich, fruity aroma. This wine is made from the Mencia grape, native to the region. On the palate, one can taste echoes of pomegranate, raspberries, and hints of mineral notes, beautifully underpinned by a light tannic structure. It delivers a medium to full body, with a good balance of acidity, making it extremely drinkable. It matures beautifully and pairs well with a variety of dishes. Truly, a sparkling jewel in the crown of Galician wine-making.

About the Winery

Adega Algueira

Located in the heart of the verdant Ribeira Sacra, Adega Algueira winery is a pioneering spirit in Spanish viniculture. Tucked amidst the leafy terraces of Galicia, this family-run venture has captured the imagination of wine enthusiasts across the globe, with its splendid ode to Spanish tradition and craftmanship.

Adega Algueira was born from the efforts of Evaristo García and his unflinching passion for winemaking. Supported by his family, Evaristo endeavoured to not merely produce wine, but to create a legacy. The winery thrives in an imposing landscape, where steep terraces have been carved out of granite hillsides by the river Sil. The vines, grown on terraces artfully trodden into the slopes, weave a story of harmony between man and nature.

The winery stands out for its deep commitment to biodynamic practices and uncompromising respect for nature. Their portfolio comprises several indigenous varietals. Including Mencía and Godello, each expressed beautifully through a spectrum of soulful wines that mirror the terroir's unique character.

The winery also boasts a deserved reputation for its exquisite vintages. Each year, the harvest is hand-picked and meticulously processed using methods honed through generations. At Adega Algueira, the winemakers recognise that the art of winemaking is a marriage between time-honoured traditions and technological innovations. Hence, old oak casks comfortably share space with state-of-the-art winemaking equipment, allowing the team to craft wines that are deeply traditional, yet innovative.

A visit to Adega Algueira promises enrichment and exploration. From the overwhelming beauty of the landscape, crafted by men and shaped by the river, to the homely charm of the cellar and tasting room, each moment becomes a cherished memory. Wine tours, complete with tastings and gourmet accompaniments, provide an immersive experience of their remarkable world.

In conclusion. Adega Algueira winery is a voyage into the depths of Spanish wine culture. Its every bottle is a testament to man’s ingenuity, nature’s bounty, and the compelling mystery that is the magic of great winemaking.
