About the Winery

Zorah

Established in the heart of Armenia, Zorah winery is a remarkable fusion of ancient tradition and modern innovation. Situated in the high altitude region of Vayots Dzor, it is one of those hidden gems in the world of wine.

Zorah winery was born out of Zorik Gharibian's passion for his ancestral homeland of Armenia coupled with his love for fine wines. This innovative yet deeply rooted winery aims to produce world-class wines that embody the distinctiveness of Armenia's ancient grape varieties as well as its unique terroir.

Seated amidst age-old monasteries, the vineyards are a reflection of Armenia's long-standing affinity with wine-making history. Herein, millennia-old indigenous grape varieties, especially the cherished "Areni Noir", thrive in a pristine environment, surrounded by striking mountain landscapes and nurtured by an extreme climate.

The winery itself is designed, in Zorik’s words to be “respectful of the environment and local architectural traditions.” Exposed, locally sourced stone is combined with contemporary building techniques to create an ambiance that is both rustic and modern, beautifully mimicking the wines it produces.

Zorah's flagship wine, Karasi, is aged in traditional large clay amphorae buried in the ground to further enrich the character of the wine. This practice is a loving nod to Armenian wine-making history, believed to have span over six millennia; making it one of the oldest in the world. The end result is a wine rich in depth and character, beautifully capturing the essence of Armenia in each bottle.

In it's relatively short existence, the winery has garnered international acclaim. With mentions in prestigious publications including Bloomberg and Decanter, Zorah is firmly placing Armenia on the wine world’s map.

Each visit to Zorah winery, idyllically set against the backdrop of Armenia's captivating landscapes, promises an exquisite journey into a distinctive wine-making culture. It's an invitation to experience the harmonious blend of ancient heritage and innovative spirit, graciously poured into each glass of Zorah's wines.
