Product Notes

Chateau Montelena Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a masterclass in exquisite elegance and sophistication. Deep ruby in hue, this Napa Valley wine offers tantalising notes of dark cherry, blackcurrant and sweet cedar, with whispers of cocoa and vanilla. Reflecting California’s time-honoured winemaking techniques, its full-bodied palate is beautifully balanced with finely honed tannins and a remarkable ageing potential. With a long, plush finish, it's an enchanting medley of grace and grandeur demanding appreciation from discerning aficionados. This divine Cabernet Sauvignon is the embodiment of Chateau Montelena’s dedication to opulence and excellence.

Tasting Notes

NOSE - Pure and powerful, this wine opens with fresh blueberries, blackberry pie and cassis. The endless dark fruit is complemented by a range of baking spices: vanilla at first, but also clove and cinnamon. PALATE - The first sip instantly reveals the character of this Cabernet: dense and chewy with bright red fruit, incredible tension and pure, fine grain tannins. Not only is everything in its place; but the layers of flavor, the depth of the fruit and the sublime texture are constantly rearranging. Each glass will be a unique experience. FINISH - In contrast to the dynamic palate, the finish is focused and stout. Abundant cocoa, espresso bean and black pepper dovetail into dark, black fruit while tart raspberry and strawberry jam linger.

About the Winery

Chateau Montelena

Nestled amidst verdant vineyards in Napa Valley, California, lies the majestic Chateau Montelena winery. This iconic establishment paints an endearing image with its quaint ivy-drenched stone façade, a beacon of tradition set against the backdrop of one of the world’s most renowned wine regions.

The winery's history stretches back to 1882, when Alfred L Tubbs established it by planting sprawling vineyards interspersed with native trees draped in Spanish moss. After surviving a lengthy period of prohibition and two world wars, Chateau Montelena solidified its global prestige in 1976. The triumph came at the legendary Judgment of Paris tasting, with their stunning 1973 Chardonnay triumphing over several eminent French offerings. This surprise victory catapulted them to international stardom, altering the perception of New World wines forever.

Today. Chateau Montelena remains a hallmark of excellence in winemaking. Maintaining meticulous vineyard practices and passion for quality, they produce wines that are a testament to this dedication. Their prodigious output spans rich Chardonnays with delicate minerality to bold and expressive Cabernet Sauvignons. Each bottle embodies the essence of Napa Valley, weaving a tale of the region's unique terroir and the years of craft and care imbued in its creation.

Visitors to the Chateau can immerse themselves in a comprehensive tour, absorbing the winery's historical grandeur and getting a first-hand experience of their vinification process. The true delight, however, is towards the conclusion of the tour, where guests are treated to a curated tasting of the Chateau's remarkable wines.

In essence, Chateau Montelena is a testament to resilience, perseverance, and passion. Its journey from its humble beginnings to international acclaim is as palatable as its delectable wines, making it a must-visit for all wine enthusiasts and history plenty alike.
