Tasting Note

The 2022 Pichon Baron was a knockout in barrel, though what matters is how it shows in bottle. This has retained the precision that I discerned previously: delineated scents of blackberry, bilberry and sea spray, just a light melted tar note percolating through with time. So Pauillac! The palate is medium-bodied with a core of sapid black fruit, white pepper and a patina of pencil lead. Perhaps this is a little tight after bottling as you would expect, yet there is linearity and grace about this Pauillac that is enthralling. - Neal Martin, Vinous 97/100

Product Notes

Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 2ème Cru Classé Pauillac is a quintessential Bordeaux red, notable for its depth, complexity, and remarkable ageability. An exquisite blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, its placement as a 'Deuxième Cru' in the 1855 Bordeaux classification reflects its exceptional quality. On the palate, it unravels layers of ripe blackcurrant, cedarwood and subtle spice, wrapped in velvet tannins. This wine's elegant structure and profound longevity make it a standout in the illustrious Pauillac appellation. Mastery in viticulture and traditional winemaking inspire its creation, resulting in a wine equally esteemed by critics and connoisseurs.

About the Winery

Château Pichon-Longueville Baron

Established in the heart of the Bordeaux region, the Château Pichon-Longueville Baron winery has long been renowned for producing some of France's most exquisite wines. Affectionately known as Pichon Baron, the vineyard forms a substantial part of Médoc's revered wine landscape, a region celebrated globally for its unique character and high-quality grapes.

Pichon Baron's storied history dates back to the 17th century, its prestige cementing over time with each exquisite vintage. The estate's considerable size: spanning 73 hectares, allows it to cultivate a rich variety of grapes. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc flourish in its rich soil, enabling Pichon Baron to produce robust, mesmerising red wines of unique depth and savour.

The château, itself, a veritable architectural gem, was constructed during the 1850s. Fashioned in a neo-Renaissance style, it is noted for its stunning elegance and impressive facade. It's grounds include the famous vineyards, a landscaped park and even a quaint man-made lake.

The winemaking process at Pichon Baron is steeped in tradition. Grapes are harvested by hand and undergo a rigorous selection process. This commitment to quality is reflected in the deep, rich flavours of the wines produced; they are known to boast an impressive balance of vigour and velvety smoothness, aged in French oak barrels, they are a treat to the palate.

At Pichon Baron, not only is the process of winemaking treasured, visitors are treated to a tasting experience that pairs the beautiful surroundings with the estates enchanting wines.
