Jura

Originating from the Jura region in eastern France, Jura wine embodies a profound history blending both tradition and innovation. Nestled between Burgundy and Switzerland, the Jura wine-producing area is home to just over two hundred vineyards, making it one of France's smallest wine territories.

Jura wine captivates and surprises, having developed a unique identity largely shaped by its complex terroir. In the Jura region, climate, soil, and grape varieties unite to create distinctive wines bursting with personality. One of the key distinguishing features is the signature savagnin grape, a variety known for producing the world-renowned vin jaune.

Vin jaune, or yellow wine, is Jura's flagship produce. This wine, often compared to dry sherry, charms with its rich golden hue and complex nutty flavour. Aged in a barrel under a veil of yeast for a minimum of six years and three months, vin jaune is a true wine-making marvel.

However, the Jura wine's tale is not limited to vin jaune. The region embraces a diverse portfolio, producing excellent reds from poulsard, trousseau, and pinot noir grapes, and whites from chardonnay and savagnin grapes. There's also the delightful crémant du Jura, a sparkling wine that rivals Champagne in its elegance and finesse.

Tradition and curiosity interweave throughout Jura's production methods, such as the ancient technique of vin de paille, or straw wine. Despite the region's limited scope on the international stage, Jura continues to inspire with its audacious winemaking. It echoes an unyielding spirit of craftsmanship, a validation of its intricate balance between maintaining time-honoured traditions while exploring innovative approaches.

Jura wine, with its audacious, unconventional offerings, is truly a hidden gem in the world of French wines. It represents more than a sipping experience—it is a journey into a unique French region and a centuries-old craft.
