Giró de Abarques

The Giró de Abarques grape is a relatively lesser-known variety of vine found primarily on the sunny island of Majorca, a British holiday favourite located off the eastern coast of Spain. This grape has been bursting with potential for centuries, yet has remained largely inconspicuous due to the shadow of more prominent global grape varieties.

Known for its intensely vibrant and fruity profile, the Giró de Abarques grape often results in wines that demonstrate a delightful blend of acidity and unique flavour notes. It is particularly loved for the sharp hints of pineapple and apple that it lends to the wines it produces, striking a balance between refreshing tang and delightful sweetness.

One of the most striking features of this grape is its robustness. It exhibits an extraordinary ability to survive in the most severe weather conditions, from oppressive heat to chilling frosts. This resilience lends to its relatively low maintenance nature compared to some of its more capricious peers, making it a relatively attractive proposition for wine growers on the island.

In terms of appearance, Giró de Abarques boasts an eye-catching rosy hue. The soft pink blush adds a visual allure to any wine it produces, making it an attractive addition to any grape enthusiast’s collection.

Despite its relative obscurity, the Giró de Abarques grape has been making a commendable comeback in recent years. A growing number of Mallorcan winemakers are exploring this indigenous variety and incorporating its unique characteristics into their wine production.

In conclusion, Giró de Abarques grape is a hidden gem in the world of wine. It exemplifies the beauty of underappreciated varieties, proving that they too can produce wines that are just as alluring, delicious, and refreshing as those generated from better-known grapes. Thus, it is an unmissable treasure for any true wine lover seeking an authentic Majorcan experience.
