Insolia

The Insolia grape, also known as Ansonica, is an indigenous Italian grape variety that predominantly flourishes in Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. This grape exudes a captivating charm that wins over wine enthusiasts from all over the globe. Characterised by its lush, golden-hued berries, Insolia is predominantly used in the production of Sicily's renowned white wines.

Insolia wines are best recognised for their intricate flavour palette. They generally imbue a fresh, smooth and slightly aromatic character. Often, they emanate an enticing mixture of almond and ripe tropical fruit flavours, such as pear or apple, interlaced with subtle herbal and citrusy undertones. The crisp, balanced acidity of these wines gives them a pleasing structure and depth, making them profoundly appreciated by wine connoisseurs.

Typically, Insolia wines exhibit a richness and viscosity that linger in the mouth, offering a delightful aftertaste that makes them the ideal accompaniment for seafood dishes. That said, their aromatic profile and well-rounded body also grant them the versatility to pair well with a wider range of cuisines.

In terms of cultivation, the Insolia grape is quite robust, demonstrating commendable resilience to the often harsh Sicilian climatic conditions. It thrives in the island's warm climes and mineral-rich soils, developing a distinct personality that mirrors the rich tapestry of Sicily's wine heritage. Although Insolia has been largely overshadowed by more popular Sicilian grapes, such as Nero d'Avola and Grillo, its unparalleled charm is gradually garnering widespread recognition.

In essence, the Insolia grape yields exquisite white wines that truly embody the essence of Sicily's winemaking tradition. Its unique character and enduring appeal make it a divine treat for those seeking an authentic taste of Sicilian wine. All in all, the Insolia grape continues to represent a significant marker of Sicily's flourishing viticultural landscape.
