Premsal Blanc

Premsal Blanc is an exclusive grape variety indigenous to the Balearic Islands in Spain, specifically prevalent on the island of Mallorca. This notable cultivar is utilised predominantly for white wines, with its historical ties to Mallorcan viticulture forging a unique identity and significant regional importance.

Premsal Blanc produces elegant wines with notable acidity and a rich, full-bodied profile. They characteristically possess a pale, straw-like colour and a complex nose, unveiling delightful hints of apple, pear, and sometimes, floral fragrances. These wines are typically dry, though some versions may exhibit a soft sweetness, making them an excellent accompaniment to a range of dishes, particularly seafood and white meats.

A distinct feature of the Premsal Blanc grape is its late-ripening quality, which ensures optimal development of flavours, while simultaneously maintaining an appealing freshness. The vines flourish in the Mediterranean climate found in Mallorca, benefiting from the ample sunshine and moderate rainfall, which contribute to the grape's rich characteristics.

Winemakers appreciate the Premsal Blanc grape for its ability to produce an array of intriguing tastes and textures. While it is used in still wines, the grape is also utilised in creating sparkling wines, bringing added value and versatility to this particular grape variety. The flavour profile of these sparkling wines varies from crisp and refreshing to more rich and nuanced, depending on the winemaking techniques.

In recent years, the cultivation of Premsal Blanc grapes has experienced a rebirth, with several winemakers keen to promote this indigenous breed while respecting traditional Mallorcan grape cultivation and winemaking practices. This has resulted in an increased profile for Premsal Blanc wines, both locally and internationally, offering a unique taste of Mallorca's rich viticultural heritage. Connoisseurs and amateur wine lovers alike enjoy the distinct character and depth that Premsal Blanc wines bring to the table.
