Astobiza

Astobiza winery, nestled in the heart of the Basque Country, is a true gem that makes a remarkable contribution to Spain's long-standing tradition of winemaking. Regarded for its production of high-quality white wines, the winery is known for the aromatic prowess its bottles possess, which echo the hilly landscape that surrounds it.

Perched on the high slopes facing the Nervión Valley, Astobiza commands breathtaking views of the verdant countryside that continue into the far-reaching Basque landscapes. Here, at an altitude of between 400 and 700 metres, the autochthonous vines of Hondarrabi Zuri interwine with Riesling and Petit Courbu varieties, blessing these soils with a unique complexity. Astobiza's winery building itself is an influential part of the story. Built to reflect the traditional Basque-style architecture, yet infused with state-of-the-art technology, it perfectly encapsulates the philosophy of this esteemed winery: a respect for heritage, coupled with a commitment to innovation.

Seasoned connoisseurs will no doubt relish the opportunity to tackle the vineyard's splendid txakolina wines; a type of wine, that whilst flying somewhat under the radar internationally, has been a cherished cousin of Basque gastronomy for centuries. It exhibits a delicate interplay of fruity and floral notes that engage the senses and showcase the terroir's distinct signature.
